Alvie "Tom" Gibson

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alvie Thomas “Tom” Gibson, 78, of Wilkinson, WV, following a brief illness. Tom was a beloved father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin, in-law, and friend. Tom’s life was a testament to love, laughter, and simple joys. He was deeply cherished by everyone who knew him. An avid reader, master of checkers, and lover of the outdoors, Tom found joy in life’s quiet moments. On warm days, he could often be found on the front porch, a steaming cup of coffee in hand, immersed in a good book or a lively video game. Tom’s kindness, thoughtfulness, and generosity touched countless lives, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvie and Ellen Gibson; brother, David Lee Gibson; nephew, Davey Robertson, and brother-in-law, Dareld Robertson.

He is survived by his daughter, Lavonda (David) Alderman of Ravenswood, WV; sisters, Linda Robertson of Davin, WV and Gay (Johnny Ray) Owsley of Mill Creek, WV; granddaughters, Crystal (Tom) Alderman-Farrell of Morgantown, WV and Alicia (Mike) Roman of Charleston, SC; former wife, Margaret Nation; nephews, JJ (Becky) Owsley of Big Creek, WV, Jarrod (Jennifer) Owsley of Belle, WV, Eddie (Anissa) Thompson of Greenville, WV; nieces, Misty (Rickey) Browning of Davin, WV, and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. 

Family and friends will be received at Akers-James Funeral Home, 832 Old Logan Rd, Logan, WV 25601 on Monday, November 25, 2024. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM immediately followed by memorial services by Chelcie Gibson and Eddie Thompson. Burial on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, to be announced.
