Bernard R. Ray, 69, of West Logan went home to be with the Lord Saturday June 16, 2007 at his residence. Bernard was born December 12, 1937 at West Logan to the late Raymond and Thelma Ray. Also preceding him in death was his sister, Loretta Ray Cahill. Bernard was a member of the West Logan Missionary Baptist Church. He was a 1956 graduate of Logan High School. Bernard was a retired engineer for CSX Railroad and a UTU member. He was also a member of CSX Redblock. He was in the National Guard and the U.S. Army. He was a member of the 308 Veterans. Bernard is best known for being the best papaw in the world. He was a loving husband and daddy. His hobbies included attending his grandsons ballgames. He also helped with the boy scouts. He loved going to the Chief Logan Park. Bernard loved making his woodwork in his basement, especially for his three girls. Survivors include his wife, Delois Conley Ray. Three daughters; Berneta (Charlie) Kinser, Charlotte (Walt) Kuhn and Beth (Josh) Sizemore. Bernard was the proud papaw to six grandsons and two granddaughters; Mandy, Jacob, Michael, Josh, Jody, Alex, Austin and Lexi Rae.The latest addition was his great-grandson, Luke Russell. Bernard was the brother of Richard (Sandy) Ray. He was loved and survived by four nephews and one niece. Bernard had a host of friends and co-workers he will be remembered by. Visitation will be Monday June 18, 2007 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at James Funeral Home. Funeral Services will then take place at 8:00 P.M. with Rev. Tildon Blankenship officiating. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday June 19, 2007 with Military Graveside Rights at Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill. Condolences may be left at www.jamesfh.com.
