Betty Lou Ammar, 85, of Madison passed away Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston.
She was born August 19, 1930 to the late Willard and Doris Altizer.
Betty graduated from Logan High School and Marshall University where she was a 66 year member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority and was chosen to be listed in Whoâs Who in American Universities and Colleges. She taught school in Logan and Bluefield and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Logan.
In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband of 47 years Abraham S. âBuddyâ Ammar; her son Christopher A. Ammar; her brother James and his wife Geneva Altizer; brother-in-law and sister-in-law James and Nazha Ammar; and brother-in-law, S.A. Ammar Jr. Also preceding her was her wonderful sister-in-law, Radine Ammar Queen.
She is survived by two daughters: Katrina Newberry of Williamson and Melinda (Charles) Piccirillo of Madison; her son Michael (Hannah) Ammar of Windermere, FL; sister-in-law Beverly (Joe) Joseph of Canton, OH; daughter-in-law, Linda Ammar; 7 grandchildren: Angela (Joshua) Mason; Cathryn (Ben) Sherman; Matthew (Sasha) Newberry; Jennifer Newberry; Erin (Freddy) Simon; Savannah Ammar; and Evan Ammar. She is also survived by 6 wonderful great-grandchildren: Olivia and Henry Mason; Jocelyn and Maddie Simon; Ella and Addie Sherman; and several loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Sunday April 17, 2016 at James Funeral Home in Logan. Visitation will be held from 1 â 3 p.m. with services beginning at 3. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.
Pallbearers will be: Josh Mason, Ben Sherman, Matthew Newberry, Mark Queen, Chad Akers, Darren Akers, and Nathan Queen.
