Charles Edward Kiser

Charles Edward Kiser, 82 of Dingess, WV died Saturday, September 2, 2023, St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, WV. 

He was born April 17, 1941, in Ethel, WV to the late Grady G. “Pete” and Gladys Edith Kiser. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Scott Charles Kiser; brother, Thurman G. Kiser; paternal grandparents, Aaron and Betty Kiser; maternal grandparents, Isaac and Biddie York; and mother-in-law, Helen L. Porter of Dingess, WV; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dana R. Porter of Columbus, OH, Mike E. and Phyllis Porter of Pelion, SC, and Ronald and Mary Owens of Mt. Gilead, OH; and nephew, Michael E. Porter of St. Augustine, FL. 

Charles served as President and on the Board of Directors for the East Fork Volunteer Fire Department from 2001-2023. He graduated from Lenore High School on May 18, 1959, and was a retired member of the UMWA. Charles served in the United States Army from November 20, 1963 – November 19, 1965, obtaining the rank of SGT (E-5). He worked at North American Rockwell in Chicago, IL, Western Electric, Roberts & Schaefer Inc, as a welder, Hobet Mining Inc. Charles enjoyed gardening and growing roses, hunting, fishing, four wheeling, side by side riding, cooking, and carpentry. 

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rosa Lee (Johnson) Kiser; son, Shawn (Lisa) Kiser; daughter, Sheri E. Kiser; grandchildren, Shawn Renee (Tyler) Layne and Jordan Scott Kiser; brother, Joseph (Eugene) Kiser, brother and sister-in-law, Patrick and Gail Porter of Toledo, OH, Charles is also survived by a host of other nieces, nephews, family, and friends. 

Honoring his wishes his remains are to be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at Akers-James Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Taylor officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until the time of the service. A graveside service with Military Rites will be held at a later date.
