Claude B. "Tom" Gill 75 of Whitman departed this life on Thursday January 29, 2009 at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington. He was born December 1, 1933 at Powellton, WV (Fayette County) the son of Clyde Howard Gill and Zell Opal Murphy Gill Livesay both deceased. He was preceded in death by a brother "Lucky" Gill and a sister Josephine Gill. A veteran of the Korean War, he enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting, football also a challenging game of chess. He was founder and co-owner of Gill Hydraulic Jack Service of Whitman retiring after 40 years working in the occupation he enjoyed. He was also known for his hydraulic knowledge in the field of hydraulics, outgoing personality and generous nature. Claude "Tom" Gill leaves a sorrowful void in the lives of those wholoved him with his passing. He is survived by his wife Ernestine "Tina" Mathews Gill and a son Ricky Allen Gill of Gibsonville, North Carolina, Sister Norma Gill Thompson caregiver for he and his mother since 2004 at Whitman. Brother-in-law and partner Donald Cox of Whitman. A good friend Reather Gilman of Whitman and a host of neices and nephews also Brother-in-law Herman Lee Mathews of Alma, Georgia. It was his request that he be cremated. A Memorial Service will be held by his family at a later date due to inclement weather there will be no visitation.
