David Sherman Collins

February 10, 1948 — December 30, 2021

David Sherman Collins, age 73, died peacefully surrounded by his wife, children, and very special niece on December 30,2021 at his home in Wilkinson, West Virginia, after a courageous battle with cancer.


Born February 10, 1948, at Mt Gay, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Loren and Lola (Picklesimer) Collins.

David is preceded in death by his brother-in-law John E Sheppard II who was more like a father to him after his own father passed when David was a child, his brothers Loren Collins Jr, Kenneth Collins, William (Bill) Collins, Leroy(Elizabeth) Collins, nephews Loren Collins, James Collins and John Collins, niece Tammy Akers and great-nephew John E Sheppard IV

David was a coal miner for 25 years and a member of the U.M.W.A. He was disabled after a mining accident. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his grandchildren.

Those left to cherish David’s memory are his wife of 43 years Eleanor, children Robyn Winter, David (Britney) Collins, Taunya (Randall) Vance, all of Logan. Grandchildren Morgan Mattas, of Huntington WV, Julia-Faith Mattas, of North Carolina, Joseph McKnight, Isaac Vance, Kasen Collins, Mylee Smith, Parker Vance, and Ella Collins. Great-grandchildren Scarlett Webb and Norah Jane Napier. Siblings Shelby Sheppard of Chapmanville, WV Jesse (Mae) Collins of North Mitchell Heights,WV and Frank Collins of South Carolina and a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends and longtime neighbor and friend Elbert Johnson.

Upon Davids request there will be a private family service after which he
will be cremated.

Akers-James Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements
