Donald Ray Swims

Donald Ray Swims, 71 of Whitman, WV went home to be with his Lord and savior Tuesday, February 11, 2025.

He was born November 27, 1953, at Ethel, WV the oldest son of the late Donald and Rosa (Browning) Swims. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his brother, John Franklin Swims; grandson, Christian Jude Swims; brothers-in-law, Roger Lee Sargent, William Meeks, and Charles Meeks, and sister-in-law, Belinda McDonald. 

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Debbie; son, Chris (Mindy) Swims of Logan; daughter, Jennifer (Johnny) Valentine of Reynoldsburg, OH; stepdaughter, Donna (Evan) George of Logan; stepson, Robert Blevins of TN; grandchildren, Arabella Swims, Malachi “Squirt” Swims, Anthony Williams, Scott Dobbie Jr., Nicholas Williams, Alexander Williams, Cierra Blevins, Samantha Blevins, Zachery Blevins, Bryar Blevins, Dezeray Collins, and Destiny Blevins; great-grandchildren, Haylee Goans, Gavin Hughes, Aubrey Blevins, Kaziyah Blevins, Jennifer Abraham, and Barrett Stewart; sisters, Lillian Sargent, and Patricia (John) Howard; brothers, David (Jackie) Swims and Daniel Swims. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. 

He will always be remembered for the way he loved to live life to the fullest. Always trying to be the life of the party, he would always have something funny to say or do to make everyone in the room laugh. His love for muscle cars and loud trucks kept him busy in his younger years. 

Funeral services will be held at 3 pm Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Akers-James Funeral Home with Minister Caleb McDonald officiating. Honoring his wishes his remains will be cremated following the services. Visitation will be from 1-3 pm Saturday also at the funeral home. 

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Akers-James Funeral Home or his wife to help with his final expenses.
