Donald "Red" Ray Wells

Donald “Red” Ray Wells of Rita left this world peacefully from his home on August 24, 2023.

He was born January 13, 1945, to the late Marion and Florence (Chapman) Wells. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by the love of his life, Linda (Johnson) Wells; brothers, Lester, Wilson, Billy, Frankie, Jiggs, Buck, Johnny, Stanley, Dennis (Infant), and Coleman; sisters, Mae Blair, Marie Chambers, Sharon Wells (Infant), and Brenda White.

Donald was a disabled coal miner and jack of all trades. He never failed to help someone in need whenever he was able. He enjoyed spending time with his family, swinging on his front porch, and waving at those passing by.

Those left to cherish their time spent with him are his children, David (Beverly) Wells, Diane (Bryan) Arthur who cared for him for many years, Gene (Robin) Wells, and Rachel (Dennis) Brown; 2 grandchildren whom he adored, James Lesher, and Tessa Lesher; sister, Delsie (Larry) Maynard, and many other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Akers-James Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service, Saturday at the funeral home.
