Earle Braxton Queen of Aracoma died peacefully on December 12, 2018. He was born June 1, 1927 in Logan, WV, the son of the late Samuel Braxton and Ernestine Emma Queen.
Preceding Earle in death was his loving wife of 66 1/2 years, Radine Ammar Queen, his son John Samuel, granddaughters Sara and Lisa Queen and his brother, Ervin Samuel.
He is survived by daughter Linda Erle (Willie) Akers, daughter-in-law Frances Morris Queen, son Mark Braxton (Harry Hall), daughter Mary Ernestine "Tina", grandsons Darren (Alice) Akers, Chad Braxton (Michelle) Akers and Nathan Earle (Mary) Queen, great grandchildren Connor Braxton Akers, William Charles Akers, McKenzie Erle Akers, Jackson Reid Akers, Lillian Blane Queen, Stella James Queen and Rebecca Radine Queen.
Earle graduated from Logan Senior High School. He attended VPI for 2 quarters before entering the US Navy. He was a member and former elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Logan.
Earle was involved throughout Logan County in many civic and social endeavors including, Kiwanis Club for 23 years-past President and Treasurer/Secretary and District Committee Chairman. He was responsible for the first Pancake Breakfast in Logan; Red Cross Director and Executive Committee for 20 years - Disaster Chairman and Past Chapter Chairman; United Fund Board of Directors; Logan Civic Association - Board of Directors and Executive Committee; Mason - 32 Degree and Knights Templar, Eastern Star Shriner since 1953; Logan Civic Little League; Logan Midget Football League; Man Regional Hospital Director and Coach for the State Champion Miss Softball America team, taking them to the National Tournament in California.
Mr. Queen was also very active in the Logan County business community. His family businesses were Queen Brothers and West Logan Water Company. He served as President and Manager of both until his death. In addition, he was President of the Logan Planing Mill; past President of James Funeral Home; Vice President of Plaza Lanes, Inc.; the last founding Director of Logan Bank & Trust; Director Emeritus of the Advisory Board of the Small Business Association of WV and past President of Chief Logan Inc.
Services for Mr. Queen will be held at Akers-James Funeral Home in Aracoma on Monday, December 17, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Kevin Geurink officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. also on Monday. Grandsons and Great Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
