Earnest "Jay" Adkins 86 of West Logan was born on May 28, 1923 at Logan, West Virginia. He went to be with his Lord on Friday May 29, 2009 at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, WV. Preceding him in death were his parents Fletcher and Florence Pack Adkins, One Brother Lewis Adkins and One Sister Ruby Napier. Mr. Adkins was retired from the CSX, formerly the Chessie System. He was an engineer at the time of his retirement. Survivors include his wife of 61 years Nancy Adkins of West Logan, One Daughter Jay Anna (Charles) Ellis of West Logan, Two Sons Glen David (April) Adkins of Godby Branch and Mark Wesley (Connie) Adkins of Holden, One Granddaughter Kelly (Mike) Aleshire of Chapmanville, Two Grandsons Mark Wesley Adkins II of Huntington and PVT. David Aaron Adkins of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and One Brother Glen Heck (Lucretia) Adkins of West LOgan. He leaves behind a host of family and friends. Mr. Adkins was a member of the Nighbert Memorial United Methodist Church in LOgan. He served as Lay Leader, Lay Speaker, Cooperative Parish Representative, on the Administrative Coucil, on the Committee on Finance, the Committee on Lay Leadership, the Committee on Staff-Parish Relations and was a teacher for the Crusader's Class. He was a member of the Chancel Choir, the United Methodist Men, the Envisioning Team, the Visitation Team and Vacation Bible School. He was also a member of the Emmaus Community. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, working in the church, fishing, attending class reunions and dancing with his wife. Funeral services will be conducted at the Nighbert Memorial United Methodist Church in Logan on Thursday June 4, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Richard Justice officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. Wednesday June 3, 2009 at James Funeral Home at Aracoma. Pallbearers will be Bill Broughton, Doug Blankenship, Harry Slater, Don Elkins, Michael Esposito and Donald McCloud.
