Edna Nelson McKinney,85,of Mount Gay went to be with the Lord on Tuesday April 21, 2009 after a long illness. She was born July 4, 1923 in Mingo County. Edna Grew up in Williamson, WV, and joined the U.S. Women's Army Corps after she graduated form Williamson High School. While working for C&P Telephone Company Edna met Hugh C. McKinney II and they were married on August 28, 1948. Edna and Hugh raised six children together in the Logan area. Edna was a loyal member of the Logan General Hospital Auxillary for over 35 years and served as time keeper for the auxillary for many of those years. Edna was an avid gardener and cared deeply for her neighbors in her community. Edna was preceded in death by her father, Quincy Nelson and her mother Mary Oney Nelson of Sycamore Street of East Williamson, WV and by her husband Hugh McKinney II. Edna is survived by her six children: Shortie McKinney (Thomas Gordon), Pennie McKinney (Rodolfo Ricagno), Ginnie Allen, Janie Charles (Doug Charles), Hugh C. McKinney III (Rita McKinney), Mark C. McKinney (Jeanne McKinney), by her twelve grandchildren: Adam Gordon, Ryan Gordon, Joseph Allen, Amy Allen Mahaffey, Daniel Allen, Samuel Allen, Kelli Vance, Christie Gray, Hugh C. McKinney IV, Sarah McKinney, Emily McKinney, Maxx McKinney, by one step grandson: Joshua Lawson and by six great grandchildren and by many friends and loved ones. Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday April 25, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at the James Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 Friday April 24, 2009 at James Funeral Home. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
