Ezra Adkins, 74, of Logan, West Virginia departed this life peacefully on February 6th, 2025, following a courageous battle with an extended illness. Ezra was born on October 27th, 1950, in Logan, WV to the late Odal and Ada Adkins.
Ezra was a devout Christian of the Apostolic Faith and loved to study the Bible as often as possible alongside his family and friends. As a retired mechanic from Walker Machinery, Ezra found his purpose in fixing things. Never more than a phone call away, he was the family handy man, always offering a helping hand to anyone who even looked like they may need one. On any given Saturday, you could find him at one of three places - on the racetrack sporting his best Chevrolet “bow tie” attire, in the seat of his riding lawn mower, wearing his old straw hat, or outside washing and waxing a car so well that you could see your reflection in it. While Ezra was a jack of all trades, racing was his true passion and in doing so, he gained a second family that he so greatly treasured. To know Ezra was to love him. The best husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. If his grass was cut, so was yours. If his car was clean, so was yours. If his plate was full, so was yours; and if he had it, so did you. He would have given anyone the shirt off his back, and even in his final days, he worried more about others than he did himself. He was so loved, and will be so greatly missed by all who were blessed to know him.
In addition to his parents, Ezra is preceded in death by his sister, Ada Elaine Maynard; his brothers, Russel Adkins and Bobby Adkins; and his brother in law, Dell Balentine.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 55 years, Anita Adkins; His children, Randall (Sherri) Adkins, and Becky (Randy) Dingess; His grandchildren, Cody (Destiny) Dingess, Tanner Adkins, Patrick (Sierra) Callaway, Trevor Adkins, and Autumn Adkins; one great grandchild, his “Lil Buddy”, Briggs Dingess; his sisters, Delores Balentine and Gail (Benny) Gullet; and his brother, Donald (Gladys) Adkins. Ezra also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends, as well as his very beloved pet and “daddy’s girl”, Allie.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 10th, 2025, at Akers-James Funeral Home with visitation from 12-2pm and funeral beginning at 2pm. Mick Frye and Frank Preece will be officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Pecks Mill, WV.
