Fred Vaughn, Jr., 77, of McConnell passed away Sunday February 10, 2008 at his home in McConnell. He was born November 1, 1930 in Earling a son of the late Fred and Lilly McCalvin Vaughn. Also preceding him in death were two sisters Marie Toth of Logan, WV, Patty Lou McCarty of Proctorville, OH, Two brothers Douglas Vaughn of Huntington, WV and William Carl Vaughn of Logan, WV. Survivors include his son Fred "Yonk" Vaughn, one daughter Donna Lou Vaughn, one grandson Brenton Ray Vaughn, Peggy Vaughn Adkins all of McConnell, WV. One Sister Ruth Ann Vaughn (Louie) Fonduk, Huntington, WV, One brother Jimmy Joe (Betty) Vaughn of North Mitchell Heights, Logan, WV. Fred Served in the 7th Army Division. He was a veteran of the Korean War. As a member of the 1953 Olympic Team Fred won the Bronze Medal for the Swim and Diving Competition in Germany. He was an Eagle Scout and a Scout master at Earling during the late fifties. Fred was a retired coal miner from Snap Creek Coal Co. Fred was also a life long member of the McConnell Tabernacle. On Tuesday February 12, 2008 the family will be receiving friends at 11:00 a.m. at the McConnell Tabernacle with the funeral service at 12:00 noon with Rev. Randy Skeens officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens at Godby. Pallbearers will be nephews Brian Keith Vaughn, Jimmy Joe Vaughn, Jr., Robin Campbell and Special Friends Gary Fonduck and Darrell Fonduck. In Lieu of flowers the family requests Memorial Contributions be made to McConnell Tabernacle, P.O. Box 71, Logan, WV 25601. Online Condolences may be left at www.jamesfh.com.
