Jack Ryan Hatfield
June 21, 1977 — May 29, 2024
South Charleston, WV
Jack Ryan Hatfield (“J.R.”), 46, of South Charleston, formerly of Logan, left this world on Wednesday, May 29th, 2024 at Thomas Memorial Hospital.
He was born on June 21, 1977 in Holden, West Virginia to Diane Hatfield of South Charleston and Jack Hatfield Jr. of Fort Myers, Fl. He grew up in Holden and was a 1994 graduate of Logan High School where he was class valedictorian and later graduated from Marshall University.
In addition to his parents, also left to mourn his loss are his sister, Cristee Lynn Hatfield, whom he loved and was proud of, his three children, Atticus Jack Hatfield, Leyla Cecile Hatfield and Eleanor Marie Hatfield, whom he loved more than anything; and the mother of his children, Jennifer Midkiff Hatfield, special Uncle, Ballard and several cousins.
He is also survived by his second mother, Judy Miller of Logan, who always took his side, right or wrong; Judy’s daughter Ashlee Miller Baker, his second sister, and her brother Shane Miller, whom he grew up with.
Jack deeply loved his friends from Logan High and his roommates at Marshall, including Tony Lowe and Jackie Calandros, who were always there for him. The connection they shared was not a friendship, but a brotherhood. Later in life he formed an instant bond with his friend Brandon Holley, whom he could always count on.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Peggy and Richard Ellis, Bill Cropper, Jack T. Hatfield, and Patsy Smith; his several uncles, “Coochie” Cropper, John Ellis, Dee Hatfield, and Bill Smith; Aunt Pam Maynard and his good friend Tony Souvanlasy and cousin Joe Mahone.
Jack loved the Pittsburgh Steelers and his late Basset Hounds, George and Weezy. His capacity to balance unconditional love with high expectations for his children has left a legacy they will strive to model for future generations. His family will forever cherish happy memories made at little league baseball fields and North Myrtle Beach putt-putt courses.
