James Ray Lackey, 73 of Crooked Creek, WV went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 24, 2020 at Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center at Pikeville, KY.
He was born September 26, 1946 at Pine Creek, WV to the late Dennis and Mary Mae (Copley) Lackey. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Keith Allen Muncey; brother, Charlie Lackey; sisters, Nyokia and Anna Lee; father-in-law, Andrew âJackâ Ball; and mother-in-law, Bessie Ball.
James was a member of Cornerstone Family Fellowship at Whitman, WV. He loved his church family and pastors. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Marines and proudly served one tour of duty in Vietnam where he received the Purple Heart and other medals of honor. James was also a part of the Boy Scouts. He served as the Assistant Scout Master for Troop 23 at Crooked Creek for many years. He was a member of the Marine Corps League where he held different offices and received many awards, including Marine of the Year.
James is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carol (Ball) Lackey, who has always been his angel; son, Rev. James Andrew Lackey, whom he was very proud of; daughter, Mary Leann Muncey, who was Daddyâs baby; daughter-in-law, Melissa A. Lackey, whom he loved like his very own; grandson, Hudson A. Lackey, who was Papâs #1; adopted son, Matt Adams, who never left Jamesâ side; and adopted daughter, Kim Ritchie, who was his girl. James is also survived by 3 brothers, Wendell, Henry, and Samuel; 4 sisters, Della, Janice, Janet, and Sue; special sister-in-law, Rose Henson; his dear friend, Dave Evans, who served with James as Scout Master for Troop 23; his special buddy Perrin Viars, who often called to read his bible verses and devotions to James, it was something James considered very special. He was also very close with his Pastors, Rev. Richard and Debbie Belcher. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, veterans in the area, church family, and friends.
Honoring Jamesâs wishes a graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2020 in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill, WV with Rev. Richard Belcher officiating. Burial with military rites will follow.
Pallbearers will be James A. Lackey, Wendell Lackey, David Evans, John Blankenship, Samuel Lackey, and J.D. Adkins
Honorary pallbearers will be Hudson A. Lackey, Perrin Viars, Brayden Adkins, Trey Ritchie.
