Jasper Dempsey

Jasper Dempsey, 86 of Whitman, WV passed away peacefully at his home on April 6, 2023.

He was born April 17, 1936, in Harts, WV to the late Oba and Martha Dempsey. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Katherine Holbrook Dempsey; brothers, George “Toon” Washington Dempsey, and Thomas “Dickie” Jefferson Dempsey; sisters, Norma Dalton, Lorene Browning, and Geneva “Tootsie” Baisden.

Jasper was a devoted Christian attending the Yuma Church of Christ. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He retired from the Huntington News Agency where he was Branch Manager for many years.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Roger (Sabrina) Dempsey of Whitman, WV; daughter, Angela (David) Hopkins of Holden, WV; granddaughter, Kristin Dempsey of St. Louis, MO; step-grandchildren, David Hopkins II of McConnell, WV, and Shannon Hopkins of Landville, WV. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Special thank you to his caregivers, Shawna Workman and Teresa Perry.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Akers-James Funeral Home with Denny Collins officiating. Entombment will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the services, Tuesday at the funeral home.
