John McCloud 71 of Verdunville went to be with his Savior on Wednesday February 16, 2011 after a long illness. He was a devout Christian.
In addition to his parents Roy and Mattie Carter McCloud he was preceded in death by one sister, Easter Rakes, brothers Ben, Ralph, Sidney, Hershel and his twin brother James McCloud.
John retired from CSX Railroad and was a proud United States Marine. He received the good Conduct Metal, National Defense and others.
He heroically rescued a fellow marine saving his life and was participated in the Cuban Invasion.
For many years John assisted in Military Rites and was an active member of the VFW and Disabled American Veterans until his illness. He assisted in Toys for Tots and worked the Salvation Army Kettle. He took care of the Elderly in his community by volunteering his time and skills.
John came from a large family at Verdunville. His wife and caretaker Belinda McCloud, a son John W. McCloud of Corinth, Texas, Daughters Misty McCloud of Holden Beach, N.C., Teresa (Raymond) Williamson of Verdunville. John has one grandson 8 years old Brayden Williamson and they have a deep love for each other. Other survivors are Sisters Marie White of Omar and Belva Napier of Logan, brothers Leslie MvcCloud of Tucson, Az., and Harold (Norma) McCloud of Mitchell Heights. The family reared four pre-school children left by Easter Rakes. They are Charles (Lou) Rakes of Harts, Ronnie of Arizona, Sue Davis of Peach Creek and Phyllis (Paul) Watts of Chapmanville. Also survivintg is the Mother of his children Mildred McCloud of Verdunville. He loved his extended family and enjoyed his many neices and nephews.
John instructed that his body be cremated and placed with his twin brother at the Carter Cemetery at Harts.
