Joseph Marion Hensley, 76 of Logan passed away December 19, 2021, at his home with his wife of 57 years, June Hensley, by his side.
He was born December 21, 1944, in Logan County to the late Jesse and Flossie Hensley. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Bobby; sisters, Peggy Adkins, Patricia Hobbs, Donetta Hensley, and Sandra (Holly) Hensley; nephew, Brian Hensley; and niece, Jamie Lynn Grimm.
Joseph attended Central Baptist Church and was a coal miner before his retirement. He was a collector of Coca-Cola memorabilia, old telephones, mining lights, and any other junk he found interesting. Mom always told him he could collect anything he wanted, just don’t bring it in the house.
He was a great father to Melissa Hensley of Conway, SC, and Joseph (Mary Zigmond) Hensley of Scott Depot, WV; Papaw Jack to Amelya Rose, the apple of his eye; he claimed the title of Uncle Joe to many but especially Sean (Amber) Butcher and Danielle (Jake) Mounts, who he cared for from age 3 until his passing.
Now, Shaden Bryce Ooten, Abigale Skye, Wynter Brixlee, and Madlyn June Mounts, these little ones brightened his day immensely, and they were loved (and picked on) more than they will ever realize.
Joe is also survived by his brothers, Donald (Ernestine) Hensley and Larry (Doris) Hensley aka Rocky; his sister, Janet (Luther) Burgess, and a host of nieces and nephews scattered across the US.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, December 27, 2021, at Akers-James Funeral Home with Mark Vance and Drew Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Sunday, December 26, 2021, also at the funeral home.
Any willing participant that doesn’t have a messed up back or is still considered a young whippersnapper will serve as pallbearers.
