June Rae Hurley

June Rae Hurley, 74, of Lyburn passed away peacefully at Logan Regional Medical Center on June 29, 2007. She was born on August 23, 1932 in Firebick, Kentucky to the late Hazel and Halbert Elkins. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Oscar "Shorty" Hurley and her great-granddaughter, Halle Amburgey Hurley. June enjoyed cooking, crafting and shopping, but mostly she enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a welcoming hostess to the many friends and neighbors who often stopped to share a cup of coffee, a slice of Pineapple Upside Down cake, and a chat. She lived by the philosophy, "you never know when you are entertaining angels unaware." (Hebrews 13:2) She is survived by her five children; Dee of Cary, North Carolina, Charles of Lyburn, Connie of LaPlace, Louisiana, Marty of Amherstdale and Robin of Lyburn. Her daughters-in-law; Jill Barber and Mila Hurley, her sons-in-law, Russ Wise and Billy Hardin. Her grandchildren; Stacey (Keith) Busch, Maria, Mandi and Morgan Hurley, Zach Buchan, T.J. Wise, Matthew Hardin, Dustin Hatfield and Zane Hurley. Her two great-granddaughters; Kasey Arthur and Natalie Claire Amburgey. Additional survivors include her two sisters; Connie (Phil) Baisden of Neibert, Judy (Paul) Murrman of Beckley and five brothers; Halbert (Joyce) Elkins of Lyburn, Max (Mary) Elkins of Oak Hill, Jerry (Janice) Elkins of Port Orange, Fla., Tom (Debbie) Elkins of Sevierville, Tenn., and Jack (Sandy) Elkins of Ethel and many loving nieces and nephews, and most of all her best friend, Jo Mullins of Godby Branch and also a host of friends and neighbors. Visitation will be Monday June 2, 2007 from 6:00 until 9:00 P.M. at James Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday June 3, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at James Funeral Home with Rev. Donnie Wells officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill. Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers. Condolences may be left at www.jamesfh.com.
