Lonnie C. Gore Sr. 90 of Holden departed this life on Saturday January 17, 2009 at his residence accompanied by his family and went on to be with the Lord. He was born into this life on February 23, 1918 at Yantus (Harts Creek, WV). A son of the late Sherman B. Gore and Lavina Dingess Gore. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by Four Brothers Casey Gore, Jennings Gore, William E. Gore and Rev. Lee A. Gore, Two Sisters Margaret Gore and Lori Evans Gore and One Daughter Sandra Gore Ramey. Mr. Gore was a retired employee from Island Creek Coal Co. (Holden Shops) where he worked for over 30 years and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was also a World War II Veteran having served his Country in the U.S. Army from December 1939 thru December 1944 as a SarGeant with the Battery "b" 895th anti aircraft artillary automatic weapons division. He was active in the campaigns of Anzio in North Africa, Tunisia, Naples, Sicily in Italy and was awarded the American Defense Service Medal, E-A-M-E Theater Ribbon, 3 Bronze Stars and Good Conduct in Battle Ribbon. He was a faithful member of the Central United Baptist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees for the past 30 years. In addition to his wife of 63 years Geneva Williamson Gore. He is survived by One Son Rev. Lonnie Gore Jr. (Margaret) of Whitman, One Brother Sherman "Bob" Gore (Rosa Lee) of Ashland, Ky., One Sister Haley Gore of Holden, 4 Grandchildren Bart (Lois) Goe of Whitman, Bret (Angie) Gore of Whitman, Becky (Phillip) Bannister of Whitman and Melissa (Darrell) Maynard of Dingess, 9 Great Grandchildren Darrell Eric Maynard, Dara Maynard, Lindsey Ray Gore, Emily Brooke Gore, Aley Blaine Gore, Alex Bryce Gore, Grace Bannister, Faith Bannister and Hope Bannister. Several nieces, nephews and other close family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday January 20, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at the Central United Baptist Church with Revs. Glenn White, Barney Goins and Randy Skeens officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens with military graveside services conducted. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. Monday January 19, 2009 at the Central United Baptist Church. Active pallbearers will be Bart Gore, Brett Gore, Addar Gore, Doyle Gore, Bobby Runyon, David "Toby" Toney. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Trustees of Central and Maryetta United Baptist Churches.
