Martin Luther McCoy

Martin Luther McCoy, 73 of Whitman, WV departed this life Monday, September 6, 2021, at St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was born May 23, 1948, at Logan, WV to the late Martin McCoy and Erma Lee McCoy. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Carol Sue McCoy; son, Martin Luther “Bucko” McCoy III; brothers, Alfred Murry Cook, Raymond Sylvestor Thompson, Tony Thompson, and Tommy Thompson; sisters, Laura Faye McCoy, and Ruth Ann McCoy. Martin lived in Logan County most of his life. He worked in the coal mines from 1969 – 1985. Martin lived in Michigan from 1985 – 1988 where he worked as a reserve police officer. He then moved back to Logan and continued working in the coal mines until he retired. He is survived by his sons, Anthony (Tiffany) McCoy, and William Henry; daughter, Ann “Margie” Doneff; 7 grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Akers-James Funeral Home with Pastor Layton Lockhart officiating. Following the services his remains are to be cremated. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of the service, Saturday at the funeral home.
