Nancy Baker Adkins, 90 of Verdunville, formerly of West Logan was born on October 23, 1927 at West Logan, WV. She went to be with the Lord on Thursday March 29, 2018, quietly and peacefully at her home.
Preceding her in death was her husband of 61 years, Ernest Jay Adkins along with her parents Rev. J. Harry Baker and Naomi Baker of Huntington, WV and one brother, Jim Baker of Barboursville, WV.
Mrs. Adkins was retired from the Logan County Board of Education. Mrs. Adkins was a member of the Nighbert Memorial United Methodist Church at Logan, WV where she was a member of the Crusaders Sunday School Class, a member of the Chancel Choir and a member of the Emmaus Community. She, along with the late Elizabeth Slater, started the Nighbert Memorial Mission Committee which still distributes supplies to Logan County school students with backpacks at the beginning of each school year. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, working in the church kitchen, bowling and playing for numerous weddings and funerals. She loved attending and planning class reunions and most of all dancing with her husband.
Survivors include: her daughter, Jay Anna (Charles) Ellis of Verdunville, two sons, Glen David (April) Adkins of Godby Branch and Mark Wesley (Connie) Adkins of Holden; her granddaughter, Kelly (Michael) Aleshire of Chapmanville; two grandsons, Wes (Jaimie) Adkins of Stollings and Aaron (Adrian) Adkins of Pineville; two great-granddaughters, Lauren Grace Aleshire of Chapmanville and Kali Jade Adkins of Logan; her great-grandson, Aiden Gaige Adkins of Pineville; nephew, John Stanley (Melissa) Bakers; great-nephew, John Thomas (Katrina) Baker of Virginia. She is also survived by a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday April 2, 2018 at Akers-James Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.
Pallbearers will be: Wes Adkins, Aaron Adkins, Harry Slater, Donald McCloud, Michael Aleshire, and Butch Nisbet.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday also at the funeral home.
