Oscar "Shorty" Hurley, 80, of Lyburn passed away peacefully at Logan Regional Medical Center on May 4, 2007. Born on December 10, 1926, in Hurley, Virginia, he was the son of the late Charley Hurley and the late Tilda Cornette. he was also preceded in death by his great-granddaughter, Halle Amburgey Hurley and one brother, Elster. Shorty served in the U.S. Army during World War II completing a tour of duty on the island of Okinawa. He was an ardent union man, a member of VFW Post 19, and enjoyed mechanical tinkering, hunting, and telling hunting stories. He is survived by his wife, June, of Lyburn. His five children; Dee of Cary, North Carolina, Charles of Lyburn, Connie of LaPlace, Louisiana, Marty of Amherstdale, and Robin of Lyburn. His daughters-in-law, Jill Barber and Mila Hurley. His sons-in-law, Russ Wise and Billy Hardin. His grandchildren; Stacey Bush and Keith, Maria Hurley, Mandi Hurley, Morgan Hurley, Zach Buchan, T.J. Wise, Matthew Hardin, Dustin Hatfield and Zane Hurley. Two great-granddaughters; Kasey Arthur and Natalie Amburgey. Additional survivors include his best friends and members of the Front Porch Coffee Drinker's Liar's Club, Leo Blankenship, Clifford Dowden, Buddy Elkins and Jim Caldwell. Shorty is also survived by two sisters; Mary Mutters of Mt. Gay and Gladys Lockhart of Medina, Ohio and one brother, Acey of South Man. Visitation will be Sunday May 6, 2007 from 6:00 until 9:00 P.M. at James Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Monday May 7, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Donnie Wells officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill with Military Graveside Rights. Condolences may be left at www.jamesfh.com. James Funeral Home of Aracoma is in charge of the arrangements.
