Patsy Ruth Viars, age 77, of Whitman, WV went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 27th after a long and courageous fight against Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. She was born at Yolyn, WV on October 23, 1941.
Patsy graduated from Logan High School class of 1959. She was a graduate of Huntington College of Business where she obtained an Associate Degree in Business. She had also taken classes at Southern WV Community and Technical College where she was working towards a teaching degree. She was an employee of W.L. Robinson Insurance Broker for many years.
While working she spent several years traveling to John Hopkins Medical Center for fertility treatments to overcome severe endometriosis so she may become a mother someday. While John Hopkins was unable to help her, she later discovered a physician who could through a co-worker. After another complex surgical procedure performed by Dr. Gates Wayburn, she finally become pregnant with her first child. Patsy longed to be a mother. She often said her goal in life was to have children and she endured many medical procedures in order to reach her goal. She loves babies and children, and was blessed by God with three children who cherish her unconditionally.
Patsy enjoyed caring for her grandkids, Hunter and Baylee, watching them grow into young adults. They will always hold a special place in their Nanaâs heart.
Patsy loved animals and has taken in many strays over the years. She was a supporter of animal rescue and encourages everyone to help support your local animal rescues in any way possible.
Prior to her diagnosis, she was a faithful member of #20 Whitman Community Church where she gave her life to the Lord in 1991. At church, she was recognized for reading her bible through annually for more than 25 years of this time.
Patsy lived a selfless life, always putting the needs of everyone else before herself, especially her family. She was always a caretaker and struggled to ask for help because she preferred to help others instead of focusing on herself.
Patsy is preceded in death by her loving parents, Clarence and Nellie Susan Childers. She is also preceded in death by her beautiful baby granddaughter, Brielle.
Those left to cherish her beautiful memory includes her husband of 51 years, Willie Viars. Five children- Julie (John) Estep of Cleveland, OH; Lora Viars of Cleveland, OH; Willie (Cathi) Viars of Whitman, WV; Melissa (Mike) Ford of Orlando, FL; and Jaime (Mitchell) Watson of Columbus, OH.
Six grandchildren- Amanda (Ronnie) Tomblin; Hunter and Baylee Viars; and Kinsley, Brielle, and Carson Ford. As well as four lap-loving grand-dogs.
A brother, Homer Childers, of Newark, OH. As well as many nieces, nephews, and close friends she made through her faith in Jesus Christ.
She also leaves behind her beloved tuxedo cat named Tux.
Friends and family may call from 6-9pm Wednesday, January 30th at #20 Whitman Community Church. Services will be held Thursday at 11am at #20 Whitman Community Church with Pastor Joaquine Ooten officiating. Burial to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Hunter Viars, Mitchell Watson, Kenneth Childers, James Childers, and members of the #20 Whitman Community Church.
