Phillip Edward Nelson, 69, of Holden, WV, was born September 19, 1949, at Logan, WV, a son of Mildred Daisey âMidgeâ Phillips Nelson of Chapmanville and the late Carl Edward Nelson. He departed this life on Sunday, September 8, 2019, at his residence.
Phil was a former self-employed coal operator and a Veteran of the US Air Force. Phil was a member of the 5&6 Holden Freewill Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time outdoors and especially spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Tammy Bryant.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Bumgarner) Nelson of Holden, daughter Stephanie Preston (Chuck) of Chapmanville, son Phillip David Nelson (Jeanine) of Logan; four Grandchildren, Hillary Workman (Ross) of Winfield, Hailey Nelson of Logan, Chase and Sara Preston of Chapmanville; one very special great granddaughter, Lilly Ann Workman of Winfield; several nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.
Services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at 5&6 Holden Freewill Baptist Church at Holden, with Rev. Larry Light officiating. Friends may call from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm.
