Robert L. (Red) Gross 87 of 5 & 6 Holden went home to be with the Lord on Monday July 12, 2010 surrounded by his family. He was born April 13, 1923 in Harlan, Kentucky he was the son of the late Ray and Ethyl Stringer Gross Conley. He was a veteran WW II serving in the pacific theatre. He was also retired from Island Creek Coal Co. # 28 mines. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Marie Gross and brother Tom Howard of Hazrd, Kentucky. Those left to cherish his memory are daughter Judy (Greg) Jordan of Maryville, Tenn. and son Johnny (Janice) Gross of Logan, grandchildren Chris (Lisa) Chafin of Logan, Kelli CXhafin of 5 & 6 Holden, Tina (Andy) Miller of Sod, WVand Katy (Robbie) Tackett of Kopperston, WV, step grandchildren Tammy and Mike Fortney of Chapmanville and David Summers of 5 & 6 Holden, greta grandchildren Kristen and Kaden Chafin, Kaylee Miller, Jacob Tackett, step great grandchildren Alexis Blankenship and Madison Fortney and his best friend Paul Ed Cooke.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday July 15, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at James Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Lonnie Gore Jr. of the Maryetta United Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill. Visitation will be from 6-9 P.M. Wednesday July 14, 2010 at James Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Chris Chafin, David Summers, Bart Gore, Brett Gore, Chris Ellis and Greg Jordan. Honorary Pallbearers will be James L.
