Thomas Duane Staggs Sr. 86, of Logan, WV gained his heavenly wings on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Pikeville Medical Center after a sudden illness.
He was born October 7, 1937, to the late Harry and Mary (Forbes) Staggs of Logan WV. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Lorean (Williamson) Staggs; his parents, Harry and Mary (Forbes) Staggs; two brothers, Cary, and Eben Staggs; son-in-law, James Gibson; brother-in-law, Ellis Brewer, and sister-in-law, Betty (Spencer) Staggs.
He worked in the mining equipment business, retiring from Southern Equipment. He was of the Christian faith and a member of Justice Christian Church in Justice Addition. He spent his final days visited by his large, loving family.
He is survived by his three proud children, Tammy Gibson of Davin WV. Thomas Staggs Jr. (Kimberly) of Alum Creek, WV, and Donna (Randy) of Logan, WV; nine grandchildren, and the joys of his life, Dewey (Beth) McNeely of Irmo, SC, TC (Susan) McNeely of Oceana, WV, Jimmy Joe (Amanda) Gibson of Bluefield, WV, Benjamin Gibson (Brittany) of Davin, WV, Trey (Elizabeth) Staggs of Sod, WV, Lori (Andy) Gardner of McDonough, GA, WV, Katie (Josh) Adkins of Verdunville, WV, Miranda (Josh) Michaloff of McConnell, WV, and Jackson Belcher of Alum Creek, WV; fifteen great-grandchildren, and the apples of his eye, Ryleigh, Payton, Logan, Aden, Hailey, Pyper, Jake, Maddux, Zane, Wyatt, Isabella, Remi, Christopher, Carson, and Lucas; brother, Oscar Staggs of Barboursville, WV; sisters, Betsy Brewer of McConnell, and Dolores (Carlos) Lopes of Lexington, KY; sister-in-law, Shirley Browning Staggs of Barboursville, WV, and a host of loving family and friends, too many too name. Tom was a man who treasured and adored his family more than anyone could. He enjoyed gathering with friends and family for any reason, holiday, event celebration, or a just-because Sunday family dinner.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Akers-James Funeral Home with Dr. Bill McDonald, Caleb McDonald, and Ralph Perry officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Chapmanville. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.
