Tony Lee Deer, 54 of Rossmore, WV passed away peacefully on January 20th, 2023, at LRMC, surrounded by his loving sister and family following a brief illness.
Born October 30th, 1968, he was the son of the late Joyce Ann (Deer) Sheppard. he was also proceeded in death by his stepfather, Harrison Sheppard, his grandparents, Leona Rose Deer and Cecil Philip Deer, and niece, Meagan Renee Allen.
Tony is survived by his two sons, Tony Lee (Malindia) Deer II, of crooked creek WV, James Richard (Jessica) Deer of Eastanollee, Ga., and two daughters, Stephanie Ann (Vandiver) Skelton of Cleveland, GA and Emily Rose Deer of Clarksville, GA. One sister, Renee (Travis) Ison of Rossmore, WV., and one brother, Matthew Eugene (Kristen) Bryant of Maryville, IL.
Nephews; Ryan Douglas Allen, Brandon Lee (Jasmine) Allen, Beau Ashton (Kayla) Allen. One niece, Kaitlyn Suzanne Illig.
One aunt, Sharon Marcum, of Rossmore, WV, and two uncles, Richard (Sandra) Deer of North Springs, WV and Cecil (Goldie) Deer of Holden, WV. Five beautiful granddaughters, Abigail Nicole Joyace Deer, Victoria Kathleen Rose Deer, Victoria Ann Deer, Hailey Marie Deer, and Priscilla Mae Skelton
Tony, had a love for fishing, four wheeling, and spending time with his family and friends (especially Frank Mullins, Rick Woolwine, Austin Ison, and Jeff Curnutte) cutting up and having a good time. Those who knew him, know he loved watching and quoting his favorite TV shows; Sanford and Son, Gunsmoke (where his nickname Festus came from) and Blue-Collar Comedy. Tony could make anyone he met smile, he had the biggest heart, and would do anything he could for anyone, always putting others and their needs first.
We would like to thank all of the wonderful doctors and nurses at LRMC for the excellent care and compassion for our beloved Tony. A special thank you to the ICU UNIT nurses and staff, especially Charlotte, Trent, Caleb, Tara, and several others that took special care of him and our family.
Special thank you to Dr. Billy Mullen, for your compassion, your honesty and the excellent care you provided to our brother Tony. We truly appreciate the dedication and kindness you have shown not only in your care for him but to our family in such a difficult time. We cannot thank you enough, we need more doctors like you in this world. You didn’t give up on us.
Thank you to all our family and friends who have sent prayers, messages, calls, and spent countless hours at the hospital with us during this difficult time. Your kindness is much appreciated.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 26, 2023, at Akers-James Funeral Home. Honoring his wishes his remains are to be cremated following the services. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until the time of the service Thursday, at the funeral home.
