Rev. Tony Murphy, 98 of Whitman, WV went home to be with the Lord Saturday, October 2, 2021, at Logan Regional Medical Center.
He was born February 20, 1928, in Bessemer, AL to the late Henry and Maryellen Jones Murphy. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Marietta Calvin Murphy, and his son, Theodric Murphy.
Mr. Murphy was the Associate Pastor of the Cole Street Baptist Church. He was a retired coal miner and a veteran of the US Army.
Rev. Murphy is survived by his wife, Judy Murphy; sons, James Murphy, Rev. Franklin (Marie) Murphy, Tony Murphy, Gene (Robin) Murphy, and Greg (Phyllis) Murphy; daughters, Larissa (Miguel) Sanchez, Phyllis (Douglas) Long, Donna (Greg) Jones, and Jeanette (Adib) Mohammed; stepsons, Tony (Sonya) Calvin, and Eric (Mia) Calvin; special son, Hobert Tucker; special daughter, Teresa Tucker; and special friends, Rose Day, and Sherry Davis. Mr. Murphy is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Home going services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Akers-James Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service, Saturday at the funeral home.
