Vernon Varney

Vernon Varney, 92 of Crooked Creek, WV departed this world from his home on February 4, 2022.

He was born July 23, 1929, to the late Joseph and Hattie Vickers Varney. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of many years, Anna Frances “Fran” Stephens Varney; his son, Jeffrey Varney; sisters, Mabel Thomas, Lois Vance, Ruby Workman, and Nellie Meade.

Vernon was a graduated of Chapmanville High School and Marshall University. He was a veteran of the US Army and was retired from the Logan County Board of Education as a science teacher at the old Logan Central Jr. High School.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Brent (Christy) Varney of Myrtle Beach, SC; sisters-in-law, Debbie Maples of Cedartown, GA, and Gladys Gostovigh of Rageland, KY. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and numerous friends.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at Akers-James Funeral Home with Dr.  Bill McDonald officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service, Wednesday at the funeral home.
