William Richard (Dick) Skibo, 72, of Merritt Island, FL formerly of Holden, WV, passed away on April 11, 2017 from an extended illness.
Dick was born in Logan, WV on September 12, 1944 to the late Louis Skibo and Janet (Popp) Skibo. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Louis Skibo, Jr.
Dick graduated from Matewan High School and attended Marshall University. He worked as a Foreman for Island Creek Coal, Eastern Associated Coal, and retired from Pittston Coal. He later was the owner of Superior Electric in Matewan, WV where he could be seen driving around with his special furry friend, Jasper.
Surviving to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 49 years, Brenda (Mullins) Skibo; children Richard (Renee) Skibo of Melbourne, FL and Amber (Larry) Gore of Morgantown, WV; grandchildren Brianna Ball, Sydney Gore, and Jack Gore; great grandson Robbie Beddow; brothers Bob (Peggy) Skibo and Charles (Sherron) Skibo; and sister-n-law Barbara Skibo; along with many other family members and a host of friends, including all his poker and football buddies.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, April 22 at 2:00 pm at Akers-James Funeral Home in Logan, WV. Close family friend Rev. Alvis Porter will be officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home prior to the service from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Pecks Mill, WV.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Central United Baptist Church in Logan, WV and First Baptist Church of Merritt Island, FL. Condolences can be posted on each of the funeral homeâs webpages.
