Frederick Zane Gray, 92, of Logan, WV, died Wednesday, August 23, 2017. Born November 30, 1924 in Mahaska County, Iowa, he was the son of Fred and Clara Gray of Eddyville, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his son Joseph Marshall Gray, daughter-in-law Deborah Darlene Gray, four sisters and one brother.
He was the retired pastor of Mallory Baptist Church for 50 years. Zane was a Major in the United States Army, former Post Commander of this areaâs Army Reserve, former AAA baseball player and an avid fan, and retired President of Guyan Service Company since 1957.
Surviving family members include his wife of 69 years, Carol Gray, sons Michael (Kit) Gray and Steven Eugene Gray, brothers Dale (Yvonne) Gray, Marvin (Georgia) Gray and Ronnie (Margie) Gray, five grandchildren, Kelli Vance, Charity Gray, Christie Gray, Timothy (Beth) Gray and Jessica (Robbie) Adkins, and 14 great grandchildren.
There will be a funeral service at 1 p.m. Friday, August 25, 2017, at Akers-James Funeral Home in Logan, WV. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until the service hour. The services will be held by Chad Shaffer.
Pallbearers will be Ted Meade, Lewis Bowen, Mike Stone, Butch Day, Scottie Ellis, and B.J. Eplin.
